One Month-iversary! Update and Where SsC2X is At
One month since I made the first devlog for Starship Command 2X!
Since then, the Empire Generator has had over one hundred downloads! And a total of over 200 with the other files! Feedback from players (is that the right word when there is nothing to actually play yet?) have been great! Great new ideas and more.
I figured I've been spending about 1 1/2 hours on average a day (so almost all of my free time), in the last month working on SsC2X and still going strong. After over 10,000 additions to the source code, Empires, AI fleets, Auto4X, are working with enough features to start building out the playable aspects.
Technology "Flavors" and templates for components were the latest part I've been working on to get a pilot-able ship in the game. So probably in the next week, I should be able to fly around the galaxy. The select empire window show the basic stats of an empire when creating a new captain. The Technology Flavors are picked for each empire when created and applied to the components in a ship. Not show is the weapon technology flavors and preferences (beam over pulse, missile over torpedo or field, etc.)
Another planned difference from SsC2 is a second type of FTL drive (as shown in the picture) the Jump Drive. Instead of speeding along in a certain direction like with Warp drive, the jump drive will "pop" the ship directly to it's chosen position (with an error margin that grows the further out the destination).
After getting a playable ship in, the next part to work on will be either:
Trading, which should be easy to implement. But I would like to add more to it than just fly here, buy this, fly there sell that.
Missions, anomalies to research, diplomacy to perform, stories, etc. This would take some time since it would require actually creating content (Unless I can lazily procedurally-create a system to make it).
Combat, the big one. This will take a fair amount of time. I will have to get every type of component operational, create AI, and eventually Boarding (which will probably take even longer).
With a ship, in SsC2X I'm also adding a crew and officers aspect, crew will be needed to operate the ship, perform away missions, be cannon fodder, etc. Officers will be members of your crew selected to run the Medical, Engineering, Science, and Command operations with their own skills that affect their performance.
In the screenshot above You can see the average life span of the species. Since SsC2X can play out over thousands of years, crew will have grow old, die, and be replaced.
With the addition of People in the game, Empires will also have leaders, that will grow old and die, or be voted-out of their office. Resulting in slight changes to the empire's stats, so they will evolve over the years.
So, a lot done and a lot to do!

Will the empire descriptions have stuff like life span and personality types like the last vertion did?
Actually the life spans and personality are new features for Starship Command 2X! They were not in the previous game.
huh I could have sworn that in the second games empire generator there was little detail blurbs about there physiology
I see! Yeah, the previous game would say something like "The Exo-Terran Alliance is more peaceful than aggressive, and values development over their people..."
For now, the new game, is just showing the raw numbers behind (along with the life spans). But, that will change later on in development.
ok that make sense
I'm stupid i just realized that's what the picture up above is
